The first stone in the foundation of the museum was laid by Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin on June 13, 1961. Six years later, the museum was opened to visitors. Sergei Pavlovich Korolev also took a direct part in the creation of the museum. The Cosmonautics Museum exhibits an authentic copy of the Vostok rocket and space complex, which was in reserve during the launch of Gagarin’s Vostok-1. In 2021, the second phase of the museum was opened, increasing the exhibition space fivefold.
