Torzhok is a city in Tver Oblast, Russia, located on the Tvertsa River, 60 km from Tver. It has a population of about 45,000. Founded in the 10th century, it was first mentioned in chronicles in 1139. Historically, it was a trading and craft hub of the Novgorod lands, renowned for gold embroidery, wooden architecture, and 18th-19th century landmarks, including the Borisoglebsky Monastery (11th century) and the Vasilyovo estate. The city preserves merchant houses, churches, and a picturesque embankment. Today, Torzhok is a tourist destination with museums, festivals, and traditional cuisine, such as Pozharsky cutlets
